Has anyone tested or used the free-to-sell on eBay?
Here in the UK where I live eBay has offered members to be able to sell free of charge
As a private seller, anyone who chooses can sell up to 30 items per month
The quote given on eBay is “Sell Local -Buy Local” which suggests that instead of posting bought items, the buyer collects them or pays for postage plus the cost of the item
But it is unclear which one of these is correct or if both options apply
The other problem with this new way of selling is as a private seller you have to agree to display a legal financial commitment statement, which is not that easy to understand
While attempting to find out more information about all that is involved, the only way I could find is through YouTube videos
Yet another problem surfaced to add to the uncertainty, a YouTube contributor explained that in January of 2025, the British government intended to enforce a form of income tax on private sellers
Added to this eBay has decided to clamp down on business sellers who are claiming to be private sellers, but have yet to explain how they will find out, it seems they have already enforced this on private sellers with no other option than upgrading to a business status or risk being banned from eBay all together
When I started on eBay as a buyer on 24 February 2007. In those days, you had to have good feedback to become a seller! eBay lowered the fee to £1, and I added two items at a starting price of 99p, which was recommended by eBay. Both sold for 99p each
I didn’t think about selling again until they sent the update message. But I think eBay has upset more members in their attempts to bring people back to their site and made all membership more complicated than needed
Anyone care to share their experiences if they have used this new system?
